Application

The rolling-ball tack test is a simple and rapid procedure that requires minimal equipment and operator training. It is mainly used for quality control, demonstrating excellent reproducibility within a single laboratory and accurately detecting variations between batches, as long as the adhesive film thickness is consistent. However, rolling ball tack is not suitable as an investigative tool, as its results generally do not correlate well with the application tack needs of most pressure-sensitive adhesives.

Testing Type

The BTT-01 Ball Tack Tester is designed to assess the relative tack of pressure-sensitive adhesives through a rolling ball method. It consists of an inclined trough equipped with a release lever at the top, allowing a 7⁄16-inch (11.1-mm) diameter steel ball to gain momentum as it rolls down the incline.

The BTT-02 Inclined Type Ball Tack Tester features an inclined plate available at angles of 20°, 30°, or 40°. This smooth, flat aluminum plate holds a steel ball of various sizes at the top of the incline. Below this is a 100mm approach table where the ball can accelerate after being released. The test sample is placed in the following 100mm section, where the ball is released and adheres to the test area.
