Overview

The WTD-02 Taber Stiffness Tester is designed to assess the bending resistance of paper and paperboard using a Taber-type testing method. This technique is especially relevant for papers with higher grammage. During testing, the device measures the bending moment needed to deflect the free end of a vertically clamped specimen, which is 38 mm wide, by 15° under a specified load over a bending length of 50 mm. For materials that may suffer permanent deformation when bent 15°, a reduced bending angle of 7.5° can be employed. The results for bending resistance are quantified in millinewton meters (mN·m).

 

Testing Methodology

The procedure involves bending a sample of predetermined dimensions to a defined angle. The resulting bending moment is then indicated on the instrument's scale.
