Application

Fibreboard shipping containers often face in-plane compressive forces during transit or storage. Thus, evaluating their resistance to crushing is crucial for assessing their performance characteristics. The ability to withstand crushing impacts depends on both the container's design and the in-plane crush resistance of the materials used in its construction.

Testing Methods

ECT
The Edgewise Crush Resistance Test (ECT) measures the edgewise compressive strength of fiberboard, perpendicular to the flutes' axis.

RCT
The Ring Crush Test (RCT) assesses the edgewise compressive strength (ring crush resistance) of paper and paperboard.

PAT
The Pin Adhesion Tester (PAT) evaluates the force necessary to separate the corrugated board at the flute tips, specifically between the corrugated medium and its linerboard facings.

FCT
The Flat Crush Test (FCT) determines the flat crush resistance of single-faced and single-wall (double-faced) corrugated fiberboard.

CMT
The Corrugating Medium Flat Crush Tester (CMT) assesses the flat crush resistance of a corrugating medium after it has undergone laboratory fluting.

CCT
The Edge Crush Test (CCT) measures the maximum edgewise compression force per unit length that a laboratory-fluted sample can endure before failure occurs.
