Application

The SCT-01 Short Span Compression Tester is designed to measure the compressive strength of paper and board in both machine and cross-directions. It is specifically used for materials that are utilized in making boxes and containers. The tester is suitable for papers and boards with a grammage ranging from 100g/m² to 400g/m². This testing method is not intended for determining the strain at break.

 

System Description

 

The SCT-01 Short Span Compression Tester is equipped with two clamps to hold a 15 mm wide test specimen. Each clamp consists of a fixed jaw and a movable jaw. These clamps are 30 mm long and feature a high-friction surface for secure holding. The clamping system applies a constant force of 2300 ± 500 N to firmly grip the sample across its entire width. The fixed jaws are aligned in the same plane and positioned on the same side of the test specimen, while the movable jaws are parallel to the stationary jaws, ensuring accurate positioning.

 

Test Principle

A 15 mm wide test specimen is clamped between two jaws, which are positioned 0.70 mm apart. The clamps are then forced together until the material fails under compression. The maximum force applied is recorded, and the compressive strength is calculated.
